about

With an emphasis on downtempo beats and downhearted songwriting, "Sleeping It Off" is an opus of melancholia. Every lonesome lyric in this dejected selection fits a well crafted song that graces a trip-hop beat reminiscent of the classic 90's era. There are a few standout tracks such as the wandering "Another Hundred Seasons" in which Lxnnnie calls out "I've got my name written in the sky/But it might as well just be another lonely cloud that's passin' by/No destination on my mind/Just another hundred seasons on the dawn before I die." Another treasure is "This Too Shall Pass" -which appeared on the soundtrack to the movie Before the Devil Knows You're Dead- about a heart calloused with scars that still seems to long for a true love, while retaining the fact that, even if grasped, it will someday flee like all the others. Finally, "The Saddest Part" seeming to be a very candid, heartfelt and honest suicide letter of sorts. By the end of it's almost 8 minutes you start to wonder how the writer is still alive. Overall, this album has a very flowing, melodic and mournful yet comfortable vibe without getting too sappy. Some of Lxnnnie's most downcast songwriting but all the while maintaining a very accessible and snug production. Perhaps meant to keep its listener company on a dismal day, and make sure they make it through to the next.....
